Category Archives: Heaven

Randy Alcorn describes the New Jerusalem in his book in very striking and descriptive terms.  He doesn’t add to Scripture, mind you, but what he does do is present a fleshing out of what the city of God will look like.  Imagine no crime, no beggars, no garbage, no porn shops, no liquor stores.  Imagine a city where there is nothing but beauty everywhere you turn.  God’s people are having plays, concerts, festivals and other things that give vibrance to a city.  I have some friends who live in New Orleans, and they are always talking about going to a festival or celebration.  Imagine that a hundred fold.  Wow!

Ok, so Randy Alcorn says that Heaven is going to be incarnate on Earth the same way that God became incarnate through His Son.  Think about that.  Right now, Heaven is a very real but spiritual place.  But something separates Heaven from Earth.

Sin.

After the Re-Creation, Heaven and Earth will be compatible again, as they were originally intended.  This is God’s plan from the beginning.

Fascinating…

Ok, so I’m reading this new book my parents gave me titled simply, Heaven, by Randy Alcorn.  I have to admit, I am profoundly moved by this book.  He is approaching this topic and explaining it in a way I never even thought of before.  So I have decided to start a new category to comment in while I read the book.

The first thing that made me stop and think: Heaven as we know it now is only transitory.  It isn’t permanent.  Try to wrap your head around that one as we consider all of the secular world’s view of heaven, not to mention our own distorted view of clouds and golden harps.
